Every New Moon is a new beginning. The New Moon on July 11, 2010

is a Solar Eclipse at 19 degrees of Cancer. The sign Cancer is ruled

by the Moon and the Moon rules the family, women, motherhood,

nurturance, food, security, safety, and the home. All of these matters

were highlighted during the Capricorn Lunar Eclipse in June and they

continue to be in the spotlight this month. Unlike the Lunar Eclipse

last month, the Sun and Moon are not connected to other planets.

However, the Sun and Moon are conjunct the South Node and that is

enough to make this a big eclipse. The South Node represents the

past so we might be struggling during this eclipse period with letting

go and making changes. We would rather cling to the past. Even if

something is holding us back, it feels scary to move out of our safety

zone and everything we know. This month we learn that the seeds we

plant, the decisions we make, the projects we initiate, the steps we take,

and the contacts we make will have significance at least till the end of the year.

Be ready for anything!

These eclipses especially affect Cancerian and Capricorn folks.

They are probably facing crises or decisions that will help them

make big changes in their lives. All of us have Cancer and Capricorn

somewhere in our horoscopes, even if we have no planets in those signs.

Wherever this sign polarity occurs in your chart the eclipses are stirring

up your psyche and your everyday life. Some people will move. Some

people will focus on children or family. Others will face difficult relationship

issues or health challenges or money concerns. We will have to take action to

help resolve our problems. The eclipse energy will push us to take action

whether we want to or not. Hey, some people may have exciting surprises

in their lives that take them to a new frontier. This eclipse can bring positive

outcomes to difficulties that have been going on for quite some time.

Our Cancerian Country is also a Patriarchy

Consider the fact that our country was born under the sign of Cancer.

The United States of American is the Big Mother and she is struggling.

Right now everything here in our country seems to be of a pulling and

pushing nature. We want change. We don’t want change. Many women

have recently entered the political arena (definitely a Cancer-Capricorn influence).

The Arizona law that pertains to immigration is about the safety and security

of our homeland. The oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has threatened the safety

of an ocean, wildlife and the environment of the coastal area. It affects our

economic stability and the safety and security of our food supply. How will

the Father Patriarch, (Capricorn government, traditional bureaucracy, and

business/economic systems), take the appropriate action to protect the Mother,

the homeland? How can we trust the fathers when they didn’t prepare ahead of

time for the emergency of an oil spill? How do we trust political fathers and

mothers to make life-saving decisions for our country when they seem to only

care about getting re-elected? The Mother is suffering and we need courageous,

intelligent leadership. Where is it? President Obama is challenged with every

move he makes. His enemies are standing in line waiting to broadcast discontent

instead of support and suggestions. On July 15th transiting Mars will make a

conjunction with Obama’s natal Mars at 22 degrees of Virgo. He is challenged

to stand up to his critics and to be courageous and intelligent in his leadership.

The strong configuration with Pluto, Uranus and Saturn is still hanging over our

heads. How do we make sane, intelligent changes that will insure a more stable

country and world? Pluto rules death and tells us loud and clear that some

things must die so we can evolve. The problem is we can’t seem to agree on what

to get rid of. In Hindu mythology, the God Shiva destroys what he no longer likes

and then creatively dances the new into existence. The belief is that Shiva is never

satisfied. He is always destroying and creating something new. Maybe the gods are

doing their dance and we just have to live through it! We have to dance with the gods.

July reaches a high pitch when the Full Moon in Aquarius arrives on July 25/26

(depending on the location) and the Sun has moved into Leo. On the 26th Saturn

and Uranus make their fifth and last opposition. Saturn has moved into Libra and

it opposes Uranus in Aries. This is the energy pattern that astrologers have been

addressing since 2008. Remember in the mid 60’s this pattern also occurred and

it initiated great social change in our country. Now we are reaping the result of those

changes. There are people who want to eliminate many of the changes that have

taken place since the 60’s and 70’s. There are people who want to move beyond

where we are! On the one hand there is hope for new way of resolving our big problems.

‘Uranus in Aries gives us new energy. There is a chance for optimism and invention.

Saturn in Libra encourages cooperation. But there is also tension. The Planet Mars

joins Saturn and they face off across the heavens with Uranus and Jupiter. This is

very volatile energy. Mars is the War God and the action hero. Mars has courage

but he has a short fuse. Will Aries be progressive or reactionary? Will an angry

Mars maverick make an impulsive, tragic move? There could be an uprising.

There could be disruptive, damaging weather events. Furthermore, the planet

Pluto still sits in the middle, looking crossways at Saturn and Uranus. Since

Pluto rules wealth we have to wonder if our economic system will hold steady

or teeter on the brink. Stepping out of the comfort zone and making good changes

is not easy. If it is hard for us individually, then imagine how hard it is for us

collectively. Change is hard because we regress into fear. We forget we

have opportunities to be alive and creative. Too often we collapse

into fear and discouragement.

The intense energy overload during June, July and August demands we stay focused,

grounded and heart centered. In short we have to stay connected with who we know

we are. What else can we do if we are to sift through conflicting information and the

excessive emotional pitch in the atmosphere? We are each a microcosm of the

Big Enchilada and change begins in the cell of each microcosm.

Bob Dylan wrote: “so let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late.”

(All Along the Watchtower 1968).

Perhaps we can begin by not talking falsely to ourselves.

Maybe the way out is actually the way in?

You Can leave the church

without leaving yourSELF !

On my last show the Naughty Catholic Church John Lipinski

and I looked at the current events and pitfalls of organized religion.

Points made were:

-religious teachings of old cannot provide satisfying answers to

today’s questions

-church people are starting to listen to their inner voice

-In resisting the long-held view that homosexuals have no place

in church leadership, women and men of that orientation are

being welcomed into those positions

-“You are your brother’s keeper” is going well beyond church doors,

establishing new or enlarging community outreach services

- Individuals are holding onto the godly aspects and discarding the

dogmatic rules of their respective faiths as hearts and minds are

transitioning from religion to spirituality.

- The historic side of religion is not that positive.

- The radical beliefs of some individuals are the distortions passed down

through generations of hatred and oppression; but the basis of

religion did not derive from noble purposes

- The intent of the originators, who then ruled church and state,

was to control the masses through rigorous religious rules.

- They decided what should constitute sinning and claimed that

whoever sinned would feel the wrath of a vengeful God.

-When Christianity arose, the people in power altered the records

that became the Bible so it would suit their purposes, portrayed Jesus

as the “only son of God,” and put layers of “authorities”

between the people and God.

-They also were greedy and amassed great wealth by instituting tithing and

other means of extracting money from the believers

- The influence of religion through the ages has been so powerful that it led to

the Crusades, persecution, execution, torture, imprisonment, assassinations.

-The divisiveness, caste systems and ostracism that religions have caused still

exists, and so do fear of disobeying “God’s laws” and guilt and remorse

when one strays from strict adherence.

-In the Mormon Church, families of the deceased can pay to have their

beloved souls assured one of the limited spaces in heaven.

-Despite glowing accounts from some celebrities, the Church of

Scientology basically is a mind control organization.

-Even Satanism is officially acknowledged as a religion!

-Of all that the darkness has devised throughout the ages to

capture souls, religions have been the most effective in

keeping believers in bondage.

-Once back in spirit life, souls realize that they had fallen into that spell

still another time and once again they choose to break religion’s

hold when next they incarnate.

-Religiously devout will become light workers’ greatest challenge.

-There will be widespread disbelief and confusion, and likely militant

resistance in some quarters, when ancient records are brought

forth as new evidence of what is really true.

-The souls whose religion is the foundation of their lives will need

compassion, patience and kindness—simply by living your light you can

assist those whose minds are ajar.

-No experience, however different from soul contracts, ever is wasted, and

each soul in its own timing will return to the pure love essence of its Beginnings

-It’s being observed, that church leaders and congregations of different

denominations and faiths around the world are responding to the

intensity of light on Earth.

Now we’re going to take the best and leave the rest

as we extract the gems that are embedded in Religious practices

to deepen connection to the Source/God/Higher Self/The Christ/Joy…

whatever you call it…. The Universe, All that Is that’s bigger than you.

Rituals can assist developing a deeper relationship with IT.

the kitchen designated for miscellaneous usually a nice

The ongoing disaster of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill falls right on the heels of Obama’s new law that open up coastlines to more drilling — the kind of offshore drilling that has been banned for the last 20 years. Even if you don’t believe in the concept of peak oil, when you see the satellite image of crude oil pouring out of an open hole in the ocean, you have to be curious about the options. So what are they, really?

First of all, let’s get a couple of popular red herrings out of the way.

Nuclear Power Isn’t Green

I’ve mentioned this before, but I think the worldwide commission on cleaning up Chernobyl really puts in it perspective. According to them, we’ve got a 40% chance of another Design Basis Accident (that’s nuke-speak for meltdown) in the next 40 years. Would you like one in your backyard? The Chernobyl nuclear plant (still not safely contained, btw) caused “untold suffering for millions of people.” Should we just go ahead with something that has this potential?

Even if your neighborhood nuke never goes critical, there is the small matter of waste disposal. Most people know that nuclear waste is the most toxic material ever created by man. Even kids know it takes thousands of years before the danger goes away. So what do we do with the nuclear waste we create from power plants and military projects? We put it in swimming pools. Yep, that’s pretty much it. We keep spent nuclear fuel rods in a swimming pool, usually nearby because, in all seriousness, who wants to transport the stuff?

Even the Federal Government shuttered their own Yucca Mountain storage facility. Not only could the facility never be made safe, getting the waste there would put hundreds of millions of Americans in front of potential nuclear waste accidents every day as trains and trucks carrying it crossed the country. Oops!

Ethanol Isn’t Green

Ethanol might be what the corn industry wants to sell us after we quit eating corn syrup, but it isn’t a great fuel source. Even if every acre of our fields were given over to ethanol, we could only make about 12% of our automobile fuel.

Because it’s hydroscopic, ethanol can’t be run in the nation’s petroleum pipelines and distribution system. Drivers and boaters already know what an ethanol mix does to their fuel lines. It would cost billions to convert our oil infrastructure to one that could run on ethanol, billions that could only come from huge tax credits and development projects funded with public money.

Ethanol production is inefficient. When the complete product lifecycle is taken into account, ethanol may produce more carbon emissions than it saves. It may even take more energy to produce than it creates. That’s not green! Besides, using a food source to power our cars hardly makes sense, especially given the present problems with the food supply in this country.

Hydrogen Isn’t (Necessarily) Green

I love hydrogen as much as the next guy. (Well, hydrogen vehicles sure look cool.) And with zero emissions, what’s not to like? Although hydrogen is everywhere, it must be separated and compressed into a tank to be used as fuel. That takes energy. If we make the hydrogen using dirty power, we haven’t saved the planet one bit. We’re just making a Jetson’s version of another consumptive energy system, one that depends on digging something up and burning it for power. A hydrogen infrastructure and a hydrogen economy are steps backward, not forward.

Getting Away From Consumption

Anything that makes us consume something cannot be green energy because we will never get out of the cycle of obtaining that something (at any cost) so we can burn more of it up. The economics of infrastructure-building are such that, once you build an entire society based on an energy source, it’s very difficult to change. Since we have to change soon, we should move to something non-consumptive at this juncture.

The energy business would prefer that we not move away from consumptive models. If nothing is consumed, there’s nothing to sell. Someone would need to sell power-making devices of course, but King Gilette would tell you all the money is in the refills. No matter how green their talk, today’s energy companies just want to replace one consumed energy source with another and they’ll do everything in their power to obfuscate that fact.

Are There Non-Consumptive Sources?

Yes! Of course. We have overlooked them on purpose. Let’s take the most obvious first.

It’s Hot Up There!

The sun produces in one hour all the energy we use on earth in one year. New solar fields are producing massive amounts of energy — enough to power cities and nations, just as we do now with oil. A successful solar field in Spain, for example, will expand next year to provide service to 600,000 people.

Solar power for city-wide electric service is a Very Big Deal and certainly seems completely obvious for the sparsely populated and sundrenched Florida Keys. Who would guess our local power plant on Stock Island burns fuel oil, brought in by ship? Yuck! New solar cell technologies make solar practical and economical in more places than ever.

The Ocean’s Version of Geothermal

Water is the other power source that’s all around us and doesn’t need to be consumed to be used. Oceanic Thermal Conversion is a revolutionary power concept that consumes nothing and produces green electricity along with free air conditioning and pure drinking water. Fortunately, it works best in warm coastal locations where those three things are very much in demand.

And speaking of geothermal, a new low temperature version makes that technology viable in more places than ever. Temperatures that exist near the earth’s surface almost everywhere are high enough to power turbines — if we build the plants to do it.

Back to the Buoy

Wave power is an age-old dream that could become reality. A promising new technique for making power from waves uses a simple array of buoys. It probably won’t be funded because it costs less than a war and won’t be made by Halliburton. Naw, I’m just being cynical.

What You Can Do?

If you’ve read this far, you’ve done the first part. Get informed and don’t buy the bullshit that energy companies are selling you. Talk about non-consumptive energy sources and steer your friends (and politicians) towards those solutions.

Since most of us aren’t involved in building power plants, we can only green our own homes. If you are involved in public energy policy, by all means, please do more than that!

The bottom line:

Demand, don’t suggest, that we create green energy solutions today.

After all, it’s your planet, too.

Crisis Management

Don’t be Scared, be Prepared !

Lately it seems like every time I watch the news there’s another earthquake.

I’ve never experienced an earthquake. I really wouldn’t know what

the right thing to do would be if I ever found myself in that situation.

Whenever I don’t know what to do I can be prone to worry OR

I can get the information I need. I know what worry brings, it brings

what I don’t want. So I decided to do a little research and answer my questions

about how to handle a natural disaster should it ever come close to my door.

I hope what I have discovered will be of help to you and that neither one of us
